Best Blogger Job in The World: Final Day

Sun, Feb 22nd, 2009

It’s the last day to apply for what’s been hailed as the "best job in the world" by the Australian tourism board: writing a weekly blog post, maintaining a video blog and uploading photos while exploring Australia’s Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.

The six month Island Reef Job - essentially being an evangelist for the Reef, pays approximately $100,000 USD for six months, working 12 hours per month (yes, per month). Last week, the site reported that over 15,000 applications had been received.

A skeptic would say it’s all just a smart marketing campaign by Tourism Queensland: applicants have posted hundreds of YouTube videos applying for the position and the media coverage has been extensive: Britain’s Telegraph newspaper reported in January that the site crashed after a sudden influx of traffic. That skeptic would possibly be right, but it’s certainly a novel way to allocate a $100K marketing budget.
