Got spare DTV coupons? Retrevo can get them to those in need

Sun, Feb 8th, 2009

Well, if you're wondering what to do with those extra cards (they're not exactly suitable for framing), here's a suggestion: send them over to the Retrevo company, which has started a Good Neighbor Coupon Exchange program for DTV vouchers.

Sunnyvale, California based Retrevo runs a vertical search engine that serves up big chunks of data about any consumer electronics item. Plug a device name into the Retrevo search field-eg., netbooks or digital cameras-and out will come prices, store locations, reviews, product manuals, and blog entries.

Retrevo's staff has been closely following the DTV mess, especially since the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's converter box coupon program went broke. The government currently has a waiting list of 3.7 million applicants and Nielsen ratings estimates that about 6.5 million households are still completely unprepared for the DTV transition, although broadcasters say that that number is too high. "One of the guys here saw that there's a real need for putting spare coupons together with people who need them," Andrew Eisner, Retrevo's Director of Content. "So we'll take the coupons and we'll match people."
