Sony's PlayStation Network is getting a boost today as the company announces it has struck a deal to add movies and TV shows from NBC Universal to its nascent online video store.

The new addition follows on the addition of MTV Networks programming last month and it will help keep the Sony platforms - PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable - competitive with Microsoft's Xbox Live video marketplace.

With the new content, there are more than 1,400 movies and 4,500 TV episodes available for download on the PSN store. The prices range from $2.99 to $5.99 for rentals and $9.99 to $14.99 for purchase. Thanks to a deal with Netflix, Microsoft has far more content: 30,000 movies and TV shows.
