Tesla's Marketing Chief Left On Moral Grounds?
Valleywag, who seems to hold some sort of grudge against Tesla, is reporting that Tesla's marketing chief Darryl Sirry left the company last December because he didn't care much for how the company was going about its business.
The struggling electric automaker planned (still plans) to take deposits from customers for its Model S sedan. A car that only exists as a prototype. Tesla doesn't have the money to manufacture the auto just yet, but its got its fingers crossed for that the Department of Energy will cut it a fat check in a few months. In the interim, getting money from deposits would help the company stay afloat and avoid the wolfpack of the economic tsunami.
But that, says Valleywag, is amoral. It amounts to fraud, says the blog. And that's why Sirry left. We can appreciate the difficult position Sirry would be in, selling people on a car that might not ever exist, but still it's odd to think of a salesman leaving on moral grounds. Tesla must be a tough place to work. Or Valleywag is wrong. Or both.
