Facebook releases draft of new user terms, asks for feedback

Thu, Feb 26th, 2009

Facebook is now asking for user feedback on a draft version of its proposed replacement for its previously-contested Terms of Service. The company is also announcing a guiding set of "Principles" to help users understand what its true intentions are.

A couple weeks ago, some users, journalists and privacy groups became irate about a revised ToS the company had implemented earlier this month, in which the company seemed to be granting itself sweeping new rights to its users’ content and other content around the web. Facebook reacted by switching to the previous ToS in the short term, and promising to develop a new user agreement - after soliciting user feedback. So what it’s releasing today is the latest step in that process.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is doing a call with journalists at 11am Pacific Time today. I’ll be updating this post with any new information he shares. In the meantime, here’s some more about what the company’s releasing today.
