A dozen mobile start-ups, to pitch at Mobile Peer Awards
Big in Japan (Dallas chapter): The company lets you scan barcode of products in stores and gives you the best prices for that product, as well as reviews about it. It also lets you search by product name. It lets you save the results to wishlists to share on Facebook or MySpace." Co-founder Alexander Muse says he sees PriceGrabber as Big in Japan’s primary competitor, although there are several other players, including PONGR. The company also sees itself as an application publisher. It has 15 applications from developers outside of Big in Japan in the company’s online shop and more than 25 others waiting to get in.It wants to publish more than 100 titles this year. ShopSavvy’s traction is impressive. The app continues to dominate the Google Android Market as the second most popular application behind the Weather Channel’s application. The company says it has hundreds of thousands of users growing by thousands per day in the US and tens of thousands per day in the EU. More than a million barcode scans are made using ShopSavvy on a daily basis. We’ve covered Big in Japan in September when they won the Android Challenge.
