CES: Las Vegas’s Late-Night Little Tokyo
In Las Vegas, there is no end of ways to enjoy the evening after a long day of meetings at CES. Many attendees might go to business dinners and parties at some of the trendiest restaurants, go catch a show or simply find the nearest casino and gamble a bit.
To find the Japanese contingent, however, look no further than the nearest ramen hole-in-the-wall.
One popular restaurant frequented by Japanese attendees is Yokohama Kaigenro, a veritable Little Tokyo in a nondescript strip mall across from the Hard Rock Hotel. For less than $20, one can get a piping hot bowl of authentic ramen noodle soup, fried dumplings and a cold mug of Sapporo draft beer.
On this Thursday evening, taxis shuttled Japanese business executives and their support staff to and from the restaurant as they wound down with dishes like yakitori (grilled chicken on skewers), yakisoba (fried noodles), sushi or various kinds of noodles. With just a handful of Western diners and Japanese diners calling out their orders to the nearest server, one could be deceived into thinking one was in Japan.
